  • This is an exhibit of visual and literary art work to raise awareness among high school students of the importance of human rights and the significance of Human Rights Day celebrated annually across the world on December 10th.
  • High School juniors and seniors are invited to illustrate any one of the 30 Articles of the United Nation's Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

UNIT 2: FANTASTICAL ANIMALS: Subtractive/Additive Sculpture

UNIT 2: FANTASTICAL ANIMALS: Subtractive/Additive Sculpture

The week of 11/14 Ms. Held introduced Unit 2 in our Clay Curriculum

*PROJECT GOAL: Since the cave paintings of early humans, the visual depiction of animals has embodied great spiritual and cultural significance for indigenous cultures throughout the world. Inspired by animal symbolic beliefs and artwork from a variety of indigenous peoples and contemporary artists students will choose two or more animals of personal symbolic significance and create a clay sculpture of a fantastical hybrid creature. Students will explore with the paintings styles of 20th century Mexican artists and their Alebrijes, which are brightly colored Oaxacan-Mexican folk art sculptures of fantastical creatures.
