UNIT 3: MONOPRINT MUGS: Coil-Building, Pottery Wheel, &
Monoprinting
*PROJECT GOAL: Using
the pottery wheel or the coil-building method students created a ceramic mug
inspired by a nature theme. Students also learned the decorative
surface technique of monoprinting, which allowed students to combine 3D and 2D
techniques into one project. For their monoprint design students reflected on
an experience in nature that was personal to them, allowing them to think
deeper about their mug’s design and connection to their artwork. Students were
introduced to images and videos of both ancient and contemporary pottery techniques
as well as ceramic artists who work with the monoprinting technique.
