Human Rights Monuments/Memorial Group Presentations & An Upcoming Special Classroom Visitor

During the week of 11/16 students have been busy researching monuments and memorials related to the 30 articles from the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights. Each student group (3-5 students) is responsible for choosing one human rights article then creating a Google Presentation in Google Slides to present to the class. Here are some images of the students working on their presentations. B days classes will present on 11/20, G day classes will present on 11/30.

The goal of these presentations is to introduce the students to different examples of international monuments and memorials that connect with the theme of Human Rights. These will hopefully serve as inspiration for the students to design and create their own Human Rights monument or memorial.

As part of our unit on Human Rights, on Monday 11/23 and Tuesday 11/24 Ms. Held has invited a special guest to her Clay classes. Alex Boswell, Youth Educator from Safe Homes of Orange County, will be conducting an interactive workshop with the students focusing on domestic violence and human trafficking. Ms. Boswell will be talking with the students about understanding abusive vs. healthy relationships, which will include information about understanding how abuse is about power and control. Class conversations will center around understanding equal power in relationships and consent. She also include some information about human trafficking and other human rights violations that are happening closer to home than we think.
