UNIT: CREATIVE MUGS
Pottery Wheel, Coil-Building & Glazing Techniques
*PROJECT GOAL: Students will learn the history of the pottery wheel and the basics of how to use a pottery wheel to create thrown forms. Students will learn to throw a basic cylinder that will be used to create a mug. Students will also be introduced to the coil technique as a hand-building alternative to using the pottery wheel. Students will learn how to create foot rings and make and attach pulled handles to their mugs. Students will learn a variety of creative glazing techniques that will help them to apply color, pattern and design to their fired mugs.
