UNIT: DREAM VESSELS
Wheel-Thrown & Hand-Built Clay Forms
*PROJECT GOAL: We all have dreams, both conscious (day dreams) and unconscious (at night); it is part of what makes us human. Our dreams and fantasies often reveal a great deal about who we are and what we aspire to become. For this project students may use the pottery wheel, coil-building, slab-building, and/or the subtractive/additive sculpture techniques to create a dream-inspired vessel. Students will learn about ceramic vessels from different time periods and cultures, as well as explore the dream theories of Dr. Sigmund Freud and Dr. Carl Jung. Students will study Jung’s concepts of dream symbolism and use a variety of decorative surface techniques to add dream inspired imagery to both the interior and exterior of these vessels. Students will use a variety of ceramic glazes for their finish.
